On the road like Jack Kerouac
Granted, I shall not be writing a book about my road trip but it has been interesting none the less. I left the parental units casa after a week long visit, and began my journey up to Virginia to start my adventure aboard the USS Roosevelt.
Traveling across country in a Toyota Prius packed to the gills and two beagles is no easy feat in general terms. Luckily I am traveling with two road beagles who are used to the comforts of a back seat and are more than comfortable to sleep away the miles with only the occasional break to relieve themselves and get some fresh water.
My mid-way stop between Daytona and Norfolk was Santee, SC. A warning to travelers who may pass through the area, DO NOT STAY AT THE RAMADA INN there in Santee. The carpets looked as if they had not been vacuumed in about two weeks and the room had a funky smell about it. Not to mention the rednecks (complete with potbellies and mullets… and those were the women!) who were congregating outside their rooms drinking their Schlitz beers. (Yikes!) Soooo… after a very brief stay(15 mins) I packed everything back up and headed over to the Holiday Inn and ponied up the extra $$ to stay in some non-stankafied diggs.
Day two was relatively uneventful, we just struck out headed north on I-95. All in all the journey took me about 12 hours-ish.
Now I am staying in the very fancy LaQuinta Virginia Beach. Ok… not so fancy, but they take pets and don’t charge a fee. The LaQuinta also has very good military rates. (Normal room rates here are $119, military rate is $78) We will be here for about a week while we wait for our house to close and the previous owner to get her crap out so we can start repainting. (LOTS of repainting… two of the bedrooms are SHOCKING PINK and LIME GREEN!!!) Ahhh the joys of home ownership.
Until next time…
